Croatia isn’t known for it’s food. To be fair, we no doubt fell into the tourist trap and didn’t sample ‘real Croatia’ when it came to foraging for our beach side lunch or evening meal. We really had to look really hard to find nice foodie places. “SHE” in Sibenik old town was an organic find. A cute, little bistro for casual, healthy eats. My mother in law is on a restricted diet – no gluten, no sugar, no refined anything, vegan, everything has to be totally organic. She’s basically being forced to eat what we all should – a healthy, nutrient packed primarily plant based diet. Sadly, it’s rare for her to find a dining out experience that’s not just a plain plate of veggies. So this place was a real gem – she could eat everything on the menu and it was yum for the kids.

It has a calm and welcoming feel and the waiter was so friendly and thoughtful with perfect English. We slurped shiny green detox juices and chomped Shepagetti in the shade. The cub, who is now fourteen months old, completely annihilated his baby bowl full of spaghetti. There’s an array of menu choices from Cosmic Vegan Platters to seasonal salad Earth bowls. For dessert I scoffed (it wasn’t elegant) ‘Ana’s Chocolate and Berry Moelleux’ – and oh my, it was divine. I chatted to the waiter, urging him to force the kitchen to issue a cookbook. Smiling, he introduced me to the famous Ana, who I gestured a hero worship bow to. Praise be to the pudding, it was so delicious. Apparently a recipe book is on the cards. Hopefully it won’t be available online so I have to go back to collect my copy in person!
Explore their website because alongside the Bistro there’s a yoga studio, a roof top bar, art and generally a culture of curation and a community of folks who are living at one with nature. This is progress.
