Karen Joubert-Cordier

I saw Karen J-C’s work (incidentally I would love the initials JC!!) at stand 304 at an art and antiques fair in Valbonne. I love that she does such detailed work but such large scale pieces. I was told that her work is on display at MAMAC in Nice and saw her huge canvases there when I visited. This tropical vegetation scene is so vibrant and full of life it reminds me of the 3D forests of Pandora from the Avatar movie – a kind of surrealist beauty that transcends place.

I loved this piece with intricate references to Paris a place very dear to my heart. Much like Paris the city your eye explores a different avenue within the painting and sees something different between every blink, the scene changes and you see and discover something different each time.
